Another weekend Vlado, a student from Slovakia, was talking about a meal he missed from home that took four hours to cook over an open fire... While we waited for it to finish, Justin Costello gave us a pep talk before we jumped in the freezing water. The next day we played football on the beach and visited William and Mary. |

One cold and wet Friday night eleven of us got in the van… We wound up having a picnic at another school’s student lounge. After meeting a few UVA students and leaving a gift for UR’s future President, we were offered dancing lessons. Mark, Bob, Anna, Juliette, Katy, John, Adam, Emily, and Justin learned the cha-cha. |

One Saturday nine of us got in the car and decided to head east. The mission was to find a beach and play bocce. 45 minutes later we reached Jamestown. We wound up playing a new game that Gracie called “S Yo B." |
Later we played football and ate lunch. Erik and Dave grilled hotdogs while Dana made everyone peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Before we left, Cecelia, Justin Costello, Gracie, Erik, Katy, and Justin C jumped in the 50 degree water. |
Eleven of us drove to the mountains to hike. Adam cooked some burgers and the girls grilled veggies while the rest of us played football. (See below) |

|
After driving on a bridge that took over 30 minutes to cross, Emily, Lisa, Carrie, and Katy found a campsite by the water. The next day they found some crazy things on the beach… |
|
They split into teams to see who could make the better baseball bat... |
|
Nine of us found the closest body of water to watch the sun set. |
Trying to relax a little off campus, Steve, Erik, Telsey, Adam, Fish, and Justin went off to see how good of a gourmet meal they could cook over an open fire. First they needed to find some firewood... |
|
We had a bucket of tennis balls but nothing to hit them with...
Step One- Find a fallen tree limb. |
Step Two- Shave off the bark. |
Step Three- Tape the handle. |
Step Four- Check the weight. |
Step Five- See how far you can hit it. |

Dave thought it would be a good idea to bushwhack down the side of the mountain. We got down to this unknown river and then made our way up to a new peak far out of site from our van. That night we searched for wood for the fire. We used torches made out of Collegians because we forgot our flashlights. |

J, Dauntless, B, & Diego after a long hike. |
As we left the campus, we decided to head east. Diego searched the map to find a place for us to sleep. We wound up camping north of Virginia Beach. That night Bart had us collect wood on the side of the highway for our fire. The next day Gabe and Adam swam with dolphins. |
|
Barbeque by the rope swing... |
|
|
We stopped in to see the Richmond Braves play... |
It was pouring. We got pallets and cardboard from the Family Dollar on the way to the mountains. Slenky strung the tarp in the trees as Sean and James built the fire in the rain. The next day we climbed to the biggest waterfall in the Shenandoah Valley. James led us under the freezing falls. |
|
Homemade rafts designed with Home Depot supplies got us competing one weekend. JT and Justin’s raft lost to Sean, Dave, Justin, and Krishna’s. Other days we float down the James River in The GO CO canoes.
|
This weekend we ended up following a truck on the highway with two canoes on it to a lake off highway 64. After tossing the football with some new people, we headed west toward the mountains. We pulled off Skyline Drive to grill as the sun set. The next day while hiking we discovered some waterfalls to cool off in. |
With a loaf of bread, a tent, and a few bottles of water we drove to the Outer Banks in NC. We crossed the final bridge as the sun set. After finding an inlet to camp at Hatteras, Johnny T decided to search for the ocean we heard in the distance. Dune after dune we finally found the beach. We body-surfed a few waves under the late summer moonlight. As we walked the beach to dry off, we saw a flicker of light in the distance. We found other people cooking burgers around a fire. They invited us to join. |
